The Monte Carlo first appeared as a 1970 model and enjoyed immediate sales success as a 'twin' to the Pontiac Grand Prix which was introduced the prior year. The 'budget' parts scrambling that led to the creation of the 1969 Pontiac Grand Prix was applied to the Chevrolet 'A body' and the result was the Monte Carlo. The Monte was essentially a Chevelle with a stretched front end and Cadillac Eldorado inspired styling touches. For model years 1970 through 1972 the Monte Carlo used square sculpted lines

The 1973 Monte Carlo employed sweeping wavy lines over both fenders and is the version most closely associated in the general public's mind when the Chevy Monte Carlo is mentioned. This was the first year for the 'Landau' model which meant that it had a small rear quarter window in the pillar top.

In 1978 the intermediate GM cars were downsized. The new Monte Carlo preserved the shape and lines of the prior car but managed to shed over 700 pounds and more than one foot in length.

The 1980 Chevrolet Monte Carlo carried over this restyle with only detail tweaking.

This 1980 Chevrolet Monte Carlo shows low original mileage at 40,514 miles. Its hard to see in the small photo but the Monte Carlo used 'idiot lights' in most of the gauge pods except for gasoline and speed. It was possible to get full instrumentation in these cars optionally. The owner's daughter states that all upholstery, door panels and wood grained instrument panel are in excellent condition and original.

The Monte is equipped with power steering and air conditioning. The sale is being managed by the daughter of the elderly original owner.
