1965 FORD Mustang 289 4 speed- West Kelowna, BC oneownercollectorcar.com Writing copyright D. S. Brown photography copyright owner. This 1965 Mustang was advertised in West Kelowna Jan, 2017 as a ONE OWNER car with only 46,500 original miles. The asking price was $10, 888.00. The history on this Mustang is that it was bought as a wedding gift in 1965. This is a 1965 Mustang built later in the run. When the Mustang took the world by storm on April 17, 1964 every last one of them was identified by Ford Motor Company as being 1965 models for registration purposes. Collectors have noted certain peculiarities about the first batch of Mustangs produced before the assembly lines were changed over on August 1, 1964. Mustang experts refer to Mustangs built between March, 1964 and July 31, 1964 as 1964 1/2 Mustangs. The early Mustangs used a generator instead of an alternator and have some small detail variances when compared to the post August 1 assembly line changeover Mustangs. This Mustang was VIN 5F07A721728 built in the Dearborn final assembly plant May 8, 1965 which is a little more than a year after the 1965 Mustangs were introduced to the public April 17, 1964. Waiting for the later Mustang has its benefits. The early Mustangs had the 260 V8 as the largest optional engine available. Later in the run the 289 became available. This Poppy Red Mustang was ordered with the optional 289-4 barrel, 4 speed manual with a 3.00:1 Limited Slip rear axle. The interior is a Crinkle White interior with Black appointments and AM radio, with Rally Gauges. The Mustang was driven from 1965 to 1968 for regular store runs. From 1968 until 2000 it was a summer vacation car brought up to the owner's lake getaway place. Since 2000 the Mustang has been in storage. It has been started every few months and allowed to reach operating temperature before being turned off again. The original numbers matching 289 4 barrel engine was rebuilt once in the mid 1980's when the mileage was around 43,000 miles. The car is a running driving car which retains original factory hub caps, and factory radio. The seller states that this Mustang has solid rockers, floors and trunk and retains about 90% of the original paint. |
